MBB Falls at West Virginia
UAB men's basketball (7-2) fell on the road at West Virginia (8-2) by a score of 81-70. Javian Davis paced the Blazers with 19 points and nine rebounds while four different Mountaineers finished in double figures.
Eric Gaines got the Blazers started early scoring UAB's first four points on a pair of dunks. Each team started slowly on the offensive end with only 22 combined points before the U12 media timeout.
The Blazers got a spark from Javian Davis off the bench. Davis scored 11 points in the first half to pace the Blazers.
UAB got into foul trouble early with KJ Buffen and Eric Gaines each picking up two fouls in the first half.
With the Blazers on top at the under-eight media timeout in the first half, West Virginia went on a 9-0 run to take control with a 30-22 lead. The Blazers cut it to five with less than a minute to go in the half, but Toussaint knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Mountaineers a 40-31 lead at the half.
The Blazers jumped out in front early in the second half with a 14-2 run over four minutes to lead 47-45. The Mountaineers answered right back with the next six points, all at the free throw line, to regain the advantage.
A critical moment in the game came with just under 10 minutes remaining. With West Virginia leading by seven, Eric Gaines got a steal and took off on the fast break, but was called for a charge, ending his night with his fifth foul.
From there, West Virginia pushed the lead to double digits and UAB could not cut back into it.
