UAB men's basketball (10-2, 1-0 C-USA) overcame a slow start to open Conference USA play with a 76-68 win over Charlotte (9-3, 0-1 C-USA). Trey Jemison put up his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds while blocking three shots.
The 49ers led throughout the first 10 minutes of the game with a balanced attack on the offensive end while the Blazers struggled to get going. UAB started the game going 2-for-9 from the field.
Tavin Lovan checked in to the game at the 8:56 mark in the first half. With this appearance, he became the Blazers' all-time leader in games played at 138. He made an immediate impact, driving down the lane for a layup to give UAB its first lead.
Trailing by three late in the half, the Blazers went on a 12-2 run over the last five minutes to take a 35-28 lead into the break. Jordan Walker and Eric Gaines scored 11 of the 12 points down the stretch to give the Blazers the advantage.
In the second half, UAB went on a 9-0 run over two minutes to push the lead to double digits at 54-41, forcing a Charlotte timeout.
Trey Jemison scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half to power the Blazers. UAB took the conference opener 76-68.
