Men’s Basketball Hosts Wofford Wednesday | Samford University
The Samford Men's Basketball Team will look to stay perfect in Southern Conference play when they host the Wofford Terriers on Wednesday, January 11 from the Pete Hanna Center.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m., with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
Wednesday's match-up is the 28th meeting between Samford and Wofford, in a series that dates to back to the 1923-24 season. The Terriers hold a 21-6 series advantage.
Samford split its season series with Wofford in 2021-22. The Bulldogs knocked off the Terriers 65-60 in overtime on Feb. 9, 2022, from the Pete Hanna Center. Jermaine Marshall posted one of his 11 double-doubles on the season with a 15-point, 10-rebound effort in the win.
The Bulldogs (10-7, 4-0 SoCon) sit alone atop the Southern Conference Standings following their 70-68 road win at UNCG on Saturday, Jan. 11. Samford shot 50 percent (25-50) from the floor in the win while knocking down a season-high 15 three-pointers on 31 attempts.
Logan Dye and A.J. Staton-McCray both scored a team-high 17 points, with Dye grabbing a team-high eight rebounds and dishing out four assists in the road win.
Jermaine Marshall also hauled in a team-best eight rebounds on Saturday, while Bubba Parham recorded 15 points on a 4-6 shooting performance from three.
The Bulldogs have been the best three-point shooting team in league play so far, converting 46 of 104 attempts for an efficiency of 44 percent against SoCon teams. Samford has converted 29 threes on 61 attempts (48 %) in its last two competitions.
Samford also has posted a league-high 50 percent (101-204) field goal efficiency in conference games. The Bulldogs have shot 50 percent or better from the floor in three of four SoCon games this season.
Dye comes into the week ranking second in the SoCon in scoring average in conference games at 19.8 points per game. The senior forward ranks third in field goal percentage in SoCon games (63%) and has scored at least 17 points in every conference game this season
Marshall ranks in the top 10 in the league in both scoring and rebounding averages in SoCon games. Marshall's 15 points per game rank ninth while his 8.8 rebounds per game rank second.
The Wofford Terriers (10-7, 2-2 SoCon) earned a 77-57 home SoCon win against The Citadel their last time out on Saturday, Jan. 7.
B.J. Mack is averaging a team-high 15.8 points per game, ranking him fourth among SoCon players. Jackson Paveletzke ranks seventh in the league in scoring at 14.6 PPG while Kyler Filewich leads the conference in field goal percentage (65%).
The Terriers are averaging 66.2 points per game in SoCon action this season while holding their opponents to just 63.8 per contest.
Dwight Perry enters his fourth season with the Terriers in the 2022-23 campaign. He was promoted to associate head coach ahead of the 2021-22 season and on December 5, 2022, was named the interim head coach.
