Women’s Tennis Opens Season With 5-2 Win Over Navy | Wikimedia Commons by Tulane Public Relations
The Samford women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-2 win over Navy Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
Samford took the first point of the match, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles for a 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Samantha Nanere and Lindsay Song defeated Emily Tannenbaum and Stella Ribaudo, 7-5. On the No. 2 doubles court, Cameron Rogin and Olivia Jablonski earned a 6-4 win over Sylvia Eklund and Kate Lee.
In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to take the 5-2 win. On the No. 2 court, Nanere defeated Ribaudo, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Ally Hayduk took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Casey Accola. On No. 4 singles, Song earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Eklund. At No. 6 singles, Samantha Maras defeated Parvathi Shanker, 7-5, 6-3.
Samford will take on Wisconsin on Saturday, Jan. 21, in Auburn, Ala.
