UAB MBB Falls to North Texas | University of Alabama at Birmingham

UAB men's basketball (13-7, 4-5 C-USA) fell to North Texas (16-5, 7-3 C-USA) at home, 63-52. Trey Jemison was a bright spot for the Blazers, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double in six games.

North Texas was efficient from the field throughout the game, shooting 48 percent from the field. The Mean Green were led by Kai Huntsberry, who finished with 19 points and six assists.

 The Mean Green took control of the game late in the first half. With the Blazers leading 25-23 at the 6:30 mark in the first half, North Texas jumped out in front. UNT outscored UAB, 17-4, for the remainder of the half. Kai Huntsberry hit a three at the buzzer to give the Mean Green its first double-digit lead at 40-29. 

UAB could not cut the margin to fewer than nine points in the second half. North Texas shut down the Blazers on the offensive end in the second half, holding them to a season-low

23 points in a half. 

The Blazers worked the North Texas lead from 16 down to nine points with 2:22 to go in the game, but the Mean Green finished it out strong, taking a 63-52 win. 

NOTES

  • The Blazers scored only 52 points in the contest, the fewest UAB has scored in a game during the Andy Kennedy era.
  • UAB has dropped five of its last six games.
  • The Blazers have shot below 40 percent in three straight games for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
  • Trey Jemison has recorded four double-doubles over the last five games. He has scored in double-figures in five consecutive games for the first time in his collegiate career.
  • Tavin Lovan finished with 11 points. He has finished with 10 or more points in each of the last three games.
  • Eric Gaines led the Blazers with 15 points, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

The Blazers stay home to face Louisiana Tech on Thursday night at Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network.
