Softball Drops Midweek Meeting Versus No. 13 Alabama 

The UAB Blazers finished their mid-week outing against the Crimson Tide at Rhoads Stadium with a 12-0 loss against No. 13 Alabama. The Blazers tallied one hit and no runs over five innings.

The Green and Gold fell to a record of 13-16 overall.

Entering the first inning, the Crimson Tide struck first, with an early homer to right center from Heivilin to have Alabama leading by one. Two batters later, an RBI single gives Alabama a 2-0 lead. 

The Blazers went hitless for the top half of the second inning, with starting pitcher Sarah Cespedes exiting the circle to allow then-shortstop Olivia Valbak at pitcher. The Blazers allowed nine runs on seven hits to push the lead to 11-0 by the close of the second. 

The Crimson Tide would total 13 runs in three innings, and held the Blazers to zero for the remainder of the final two. UAB entered Bailey Tindell at the close of the fourth inning, holding the Crimson Tide to just one hit during her time. 

At the close of the fifth inning, Lilly Crowe approached to bat and delivered a base hit to quell the potential of a no-hitter for Alabama. Two outs later, the game finished with Alabama shutting out UAB in 12 runs.

IN THE BOX 

-The Blazers tallied a little over half the number of at-bats as the Crimson Tide, with a total of 16 to Alabama's 25

-On the defensive, the Blazers and Crimson Tide tallied nearly identical stats in putouts, with UAB totalling 12 and Alabama finishing with 15

-UAB left one runner on base, while Alabama left four over the course of the five innings

UP NEXT

The Blazers return to action on Friday, March 24 where they host Florida International at Mary Bowers Field for a weekend series. Game one starts at 5 PM.
