U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Tommy Tuberville, Bill Hagerty, and Tim Kaine are persistently advocating for Alabama-based Vulcan Materials Company in its ongoing dispute with the Mexican government. The senators recently penned a letter to Alicia Bárcena, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, urging her to address the Mexican government's alleged mistreatment of Vulcan.

Two years ago, the Mexican government reportedly invaded and shut down Vulcan’s Punta Venado deep-water port in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Since then, Mexican President Lopez Obrador has repeatedly threatened to forcibly take over Vulcan’s port and limestone quarry, pushing their operations out of Mexico. This is despite Vulcan's presence in Mexico for more than 35 years.

Senator Britt said: “President López Obrador’s conduct threatening Vulcan’s lawful operations in Mexico has consistently been unacceptable and illegitimate under Mexican law and international law. Key infrastructure projects in Alabama and across the Southeastern United States continue to be in jeopardy because of this Mexican presidential administration’s lawlessness."

Senator Tuberville added: "Alabama is proud to be home to the world-renowned Vulcan Materials Company. The Mexican government’s hostility toward Vulcan is unwarranted and jeopardizes the long-standing bilateral relationship between Mexico and the U.S."

"I strongly condemn the actions taken by President López Obrador to illegally seize the lawful assets of Vulcan Materials Company," stated Senator Hagerty.

The full text of their letter can be found here or below:

"Secretary Bárcena,

As you are no doubt aware, Vulcan Materials Company (Vulcan) is an Alabama-based company with a deep-water port and limestone quarry in Mexico... If Vulcan’s land and port are seized, we will be forced to consider all available remedies at our disposal to ensure no entity or individual benefits from the theft of this property."

Senators Britt and Tuberville have been united in advocating for Vulcan in its ongoing dispute with Mexico. They have met with Ambassador Moctezuma and advocated for Vulcan in its dispute with Mexico, announcing that the Mexican military had left the Vulcan Materials Company’s port facility in Mexico and Mexican law enforcement had left the facility.
