U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), along with 14 other Senate Republican colleagues, have introduced the Israel Security Assistance Support Act. This legislation aims to compel the Biden Administration to send crucial munitions to Israel. The bill has been cosponsored by a number of senators, including John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.Dak.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Deb Fischer (R-Nebr.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Pete Ricketts (R-Nebr.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.). Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA-41) has also recently introduced companion legislation in the House.
This move follows Senator Britt's participation last week in a press conference hosted by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) concerning President Biden’s decision to withhold certain shipments of American weapons to Israel. During this conference, senators announced their introduction of a resolution condemning any action by the Biden Administration to withhold or restrict ammunition or weapons for Israel.
Senator Britt commented on the situation, stating, “After World War II, we as Americans said, ‘Never Again.’ Today, President Biden’s dithering doctrine of appeasement and legacy of weakness threaten to break that promise. This Administration is turning its back on Israel — and at the worst possible time. As Israel works to secure the release of hostages — including American citizens — still held by Hamas in Gaza, President Biden has undermined Israel and empowered Hamas. We must stand unequivocally with Israel as she fights to end Hamas’ reign of terror and ensure there is never another October 7.”
The resolution was cosponsored by numerous senators, including Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), John Thune (R-S.Dak.), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Bill Cassidy (La.), John Cornyn (R-Tex.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.Dak.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Deb Fischer (R-Nebr.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Josh Hawley(R-Mo.) and many others.
