The United States Senate has unanimously passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) to commemorate the University of South Alabama’s 60th anniversary. Founded on May 3, 1963, the University has awarded over 90,000 degrees and is recognized for its significant contributions in education, athletics, and community service.

The University's health system, USA Health, is noted as the only academic health system along the upper Gulf Coast and is a leader in research and cancer treatment. The resolution highlights the University's growth from an initial class of 276 students to more than 13,500 students annually across over 115 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs through its ten colleges and schools.

“From its first class of 276 students, the University of South Alabama has grown to host more than 13,500 students annually who participate in over 115 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs through its ten colleges and schools,” reads part of the resolution. “The University of South Alabama has distinguished itself by producing alumni who have excelled in various sectors including research, medicine, business, education, engineering, the sciences, the arts, and athletics among others.”

The resolution concludes by commending "the University of South Alabama on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and its years of service to the State of Alabama and the United States."
