U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) issued a statement today following Senate Democrats' vote on the Reproductive Freedom for Women Act.
"I’m proud to be pro-life, pro-family, and pro-woman. Make no mistake – today was nothing more than yet another self-serving show vote by Senator Schumer. Democrats’ continued far-left push to get rid of the longstanding, bipartisan Hyde Amendment and force American taxpayers to fund abortions at any time, for any reason, up until the moment of birth is radical and wildly out of touch," said Senator Britt.
"Instead of trying to distract from America’s decline under the Biden-Harris Administration, Senate Democrats should spend floor time on commonsense, common-ground solutions that would truly help hardworking families across our nation. I urge my Democratic colleagues to prioritize legislation that would protect the mental health of children and teenagers on social media. Sadly, this Senate Majority continues to prioritize scare tactics, fearmongering, and partisan judicial nominees. The American people deserve better."
Earlier this year, Senator Britt questioned U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Xavier Becerra regarding the absence of the Hyde Amendment from President Biden’s proposed FY25 HHS Budget. The Hyde Amendment has been included in annual appropriations legislation since 1977 and bars federal taxpayer dollars from funding abortions.
Breaking with longstanding bipartisan norms, Secretary Becerra admitted to Senator Britt that President Biden “wants to remove the Hyde Amendment from the budget proposals, and that’s what he’s done.” A vocal advocate for life, Senator Britt has consistently fought to protect the Hyde Amendment and will continue holding the Biden Administration and Democrats accountable for their abortion policies.
