U.S. Senator Katie Britt recently addressed the Senate regarding the progress of the Laken Riley Act, urging her fellow senators to prioritize American families over open border policies. Speaking on the Senate Floor, Senator Britt emphasized the importance of advancing this bipartisan bill aimed at enhancing safety and security for Americans.

"Last week, the Senate took a big bipartisan step toward honoring the life and legacy of Laken Riley—answering her loved ones’ call to action and protecting American families," stated Senator Britt. She acknowledged that while this was a significant move, more efforts are required to meet public demands for securing borders.

Senator Britt highlighted past challenges in advancing the legislation due to opposition from Democrats but noted a shift in attitudes within the Senate. "It is a new day in the United States Senate, and peoples’ tunes [have] changed," she remarked. She expressed optimism about gaining support from colleagues across party lines who agree that criminal illegal aliens should not be released onto American streets.

Clarifying the scope of the bill, Senator Britt said, "This bill does not attempt to fix every single thing in our immigration and border security system." Instead, it focuses on protecting families from criminal illegal aliens—a point she believes should unite both parties.

Addressing opposition from special interest groups, Senator Britt accused them of spreading misinformation to derail the bill's progress. She asserted that these groups have historically advocated for open borders and urged her colleagues to heed public opinion rather than succumb to external pressures.

"The time to act is now," she declared, reinforcing that Americans demand immediate action on this issue. She concluded by posing a choice to her colleagues: "What will you choose to protect? Open borders or American families."
