On April 10, 2025, Gary Palmer, a current U.S. Congressman representing Alabama's 6th District, shared his views on preventing non-citizens from voting in American elections through a series of tweets. Palmer emphasized the importance of the SAVE Act and its role in election integrity.

In a tweet posted on April 10, Palmer expressed his belief that "Preventing non-citizens from voting in American elections should not be controversial." He announced that the House GOP planned to pass the SAVE Act, aiming to protect the integrity of U.S. elections and counter what he described as misinformation from the left about the act.

Following up, Palmer addressed the existing legal framework, noting that "Yes, it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections." However, he argued that the SAVE Act was necessary due to the National Voter Registration Act's (NVRA) limitations on enforcing this law. The proposed legislation would mandate states to verify the citizenship status of individuals during voter registration.

Palmer provided a case regarding non-citizens voting, stating that "There has been proof of non-citizens voting in American elections." He cited an instance in Alabama where the state's Secretary of State sought to remove 3,251 non-citizens from voter rolls but was hindered by what Palmer described as intervention from "Biden’s liberal DOJ." He also referenced the "Biden border crisis" as a factor in allowing illegal aliens to enter the country.

Gary Palmer has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2015, having succeeded Spencer Bachus. He represents Alabama’s 6th District and has resided in Alabama for much of his life, being born in Hackleburg in 1954 and growing up in the state. Palmer earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama in 1977.
