Sewell voices concern about Selma school funding and tariffs affecting Alabama

Rep. Terri A. Sewell, representing Alabama’s 7th district, recently shared updates and concerns via a series of tweets. Sewell has been a member of the U.S. Congress since 2011, after succeeding Artur Davis. Born in 1965 in Huntsville, Alabama, she now resides in Birmingham, holding degrees from Princeton, Oxford, and Harvard.

On April 2, 2025, Rep. Sewell expressed concern regarding the funding for education in Selma. She explained that "More troubling news—The Department of Education has terminated $4 million that was allocated for Selma City Schools."

Later that evening, Sewell commented on the economic impact of tariffs implemented by the Trump administration, noting their widespread effects on different sectors. According to her tweet on April 2, 2025, "Trump’s tariffs amount to the largest tax increase on families in American history. They are bad for consumers who will see prices skyrocket. They are bad for Alabama farmers who will face retaliatory tariffs. And they are bad for Alabama manufacturers who depend on complex."

The following day, Rep. Sewell announced an upcoming event to discuss recent political developments. On April 3, 2025, she tweeted, "NEW: I’m hosting a LIVE Telephone Town Hall on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. CDT. My guests and I will discuss the impacts of the latest developments in Washington, including: Litigation against the Trump Admin. Attacks on federal workers Dismantling of the Dept. of."
