The United States Senate has approved a bill introduced by Representative Gary Palmer, aimed at overturning a specific rule set by the Biden-Harris administration concerning natural gas water heaters. The legislation, known as H.J. Res. 20, aims to negate what has been described as a last-minute attempt by the previous administration to restrict certain water heaters. Following the bill's passage in the Senate, Rep. Palmer expressed his approval.
“I applaud the Senate on passing this legislation to protect not only gas water heaters, but consumers,” said Rep. Palmer. “For four years, the Biden-Harris administration waged war on our home appliances. When their reign was coming to an end, they attempted to implement senseless and overreaching regulations at the last minute that would increase costs for the American people. With a unified Republican government, we must reduce costs by reversing these regulations. Today, the Senate did just that. I look forward to seeing this legislation cross the finish line and get signed by President Trump soon.”
The counterpart legislation in the Senate, sponsored by Senator Ted Cruz, passed with a vote tally of 53-44. The House of Representatives had previously approved Rep. Palmer's bill in February, with a vote of 221-198, alongside two abstentions.
The move to block the rule reflects ongoing political debate over energy regulation and consumer costs. The passing of this legislation by the Senate marks a step towards its potential enactment, pending further approval.
