LHS Art Show at Leeds Art Council 2023

Last Sunday, February 5, Leeds Art Council hosted its yearly LHS Art Show featuring artworks from some of Leeds High School’s best artists. The show presented a variety of pieces from animals to food, to monuments, all highlighting the immense talent of Leeds’ students. Art 1-3 is offered as an elective at LHS taught by Ms. Kirkpatrick and is a class in which students are exposed to a range of art mediums (paint, colored pencil, clay, glass) and taught how to better use these mediums to express themselves. Ms. Kirkpatrick pointed out to me that art is around us at all times and influences the way we think without us evening realizing. Art is a great way of expression and allows us to communicate our emotions, good and bad. When asking her why it is important to share art with the community Kirkpatrick responded with, “We have some crazy talented kids, the art show encourages them to work hard and because the community gives to the schools, this is a good way to give back.” When asked how the community can continue to support art at LHS she says, “To encourage more kids to do art because anyone can participate whether they believe they are ‘good’ or not,” in which she argues that there is no such thing as “good” or “bad” art. Come see what the students have to offer. Maybe you will leave inspired to go out and make art yourself! The students’ artwork will be displayed and available for purchase for the rest of February and the Leeds Art Council is open on Mondays from 9am-12pm. ~Article & Photos by Darcy Phillips - LHS Senior/Everyone Leeds Intern.
