U.S. Senators Katie Britt and Chuck Grassley, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, recently introduced the Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act, aiming to assist employers in certifying the legal status of their workforce through the E-Verify program. This program is intended to determine if employees are authorized to work in the United States.

Senator Britt remarked, “I’m proud to support legislation that protects American workers and deters illegal migration. The E-Verify program is critical to ensuring that illegal aliens cannot work unlawfully in the United States." Britt emphasized the importance of carrying out the public's wishes on this matter.

The proposed legislation seeks to permanently authorize and expand E-Verify, requiring all employers to use this free, internet-based program. It also plans to extend access to businesses in rural areas lacking internet access. Chairman Grassley noted, “E-Verify is a proven tool for employers... to ensure our businesses are legally staffed. By reducing incentives for illegal immigration and safeguarding job opportunities for Americans and other legal workers, our bill would boost accountability in the workforce.”

Senator Britt has consistently advocated for stronger immigration enforcement. Earlier this year, her Laken Riley Act became the first bill signed into law by President Trump, marking significant progress in immigration enforcement and border security legislation. In an opinion piece, Britt reiterated her commitment to these issues, stating, “We will keep the promises we made to the American people by securing our border, detaining and deporting criminal illegal aliens, and restoring order throughout the United States.”

Additionally, Britt proposed the WALL Act to allocate $25 billion for the completion of a border wall without imposing new taxes on citizens or increasing the national debt. She stated, “The United States needs a completed border wall—it is just common sense to have a physical barrier in place to ensure only lawful entry into our country.”
