WASHINGTON, D.C., April 24, 2024 — U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), and 24 of their Senate Republican colleagues have called on the Biden Administration to protect Jewish students from antisemitic mobs on college campuses.

In a letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, the Senators emphasized the need for immediate action to address the outbreak of anti-Semitic incidents targeting Jewish students. They urged the administration to restore order and ensure the safety of Jewish students who have been threatened and chased away from schools by pro-Hamas rioters.

The Senators highlighted the seriousness of the situation, pointing out the violence and threats faced by Jewish students at various universities. They called for federal law enforcement to prosecute individuals involved in perpetuating violence against Jewish students, revoke visas of foreign nationals supporting terrorism, and hold school administrators accountable for failing to protect students.

The letter expressed concern over the recent surge in anti-Semitic protests on college campuses, with incidents of chanting anti-Semitic slogans and direct threats against Jewish students. The Senators cited examples such as Columbia University and Yale University, where Jewish students have been urged to flee campus for their safety and where a student journalist was reportedly attacked by a pro-Hamas mob.

Senator Britt, a strong supporter of the Jewish community and Israel, has been actively involved in advocating for measures to combat antisemitism. Along with her colleagues, she has cosponsored legislation aimed at addressing the rise in antisemitic incidents in the United States.

The Senators have requested updates from the administration on efforts to protect Jewish students by Wednesday, April 24. They have emphasized the importance of immediate action to enforce federal laws and ensure the safety and security of Jewish students on college campuses.
