U.S. Senator Katie Britt Secures Funds to Upgrade Luverne Police Department Vehicles

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 28, 2024 – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has secured $200,000 for the City of Luverne in the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

This congressionally directed spending will enable the Luverne Police Department to procure updated public safety equipment, including all-terrain vehicles equipped with necessary communications tools.

“Ensuring our fantastic law enforcement officers have the best tools to protect their fellow Alabamians and themselves is a top priority for me,” said Senator Britt. “I’m proud to have secured $200,000 to help the Luverne Police Department procure new vehicles to better protect their community.”

The City of Luverne expressed gratitude for Senator Britt's efforts. Mayor Ed Beasley stated, “The City of Luverne is very appreciative to Senator Britt for her efforts in securing much-needed funds for the purchase of vehicles for our Police Department. It is increasingly difficult for small municipalities like Luverne to provide the resources necessary for our Police Department to keep our citizens safe. It is obvious that Senator Britt realizes the financial crisis most small municipalities find themselves in and has taken action to lessen that burden. We are most appreciative to Senator Britt for her continued efforts on behalf of the citizens of Alabama and particularly for the citizens of Luverne.”

The FY25 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act now awaits consideration by the full Senate.

Overall, Senator Britt secured $7.16 million in justice-related congressionally directed spending in the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2025.

Senator Britt is an advocate for ensuring the unique needs of Alabama’s communities—both rural and urban—are met. This includes supporting law enforcement officers. She is a staunch champion of Alabama’s law enforcement community and a cosponsor of several acts aimed at strengthening protections and expanding resources for police officers.
