WASHINGTON, D.C., August 28, 2024 – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has secured $50,000 for the Bullock County Sheriff’s Department in the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

This congressionally directed spending will enable the Bullock County Sheriff’s Department to procure new patrol cars. “Ensuring our courageous law enforcement officers have the best tools to protect their fellow Alabamians and themselves is a top priority,” said Senator Britt. “I’m proud to have secured the funding necessary to enable the Bullock County Sheriff’s Department to procure new vehicles to better serve local families and communities.”

Chief Deputy Roderick Rover expressed gratitude for Senator Britt's efforts: “I’m grateful to Senator Britt for her continued support in securing $50,000 in funding for the Bullock County Sheriff’s Office through the FY2025 Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill. This funding is essential for ensuring public safety in our community. In Bullock County, where resources are often limited, every dollar dedicated to public safety has an immediate impact. This funding will improve our law enforcement’s mobility and response time by enabling the purchase of new vehicles. With these upgrades, our deputies will be better equipped to respond quickly to emergencies, patrol the county, and better serve our residents.”

He further added: “Also, this investment reflects a strong commitment to prioritizing public safety in Bullock County. It helps build trust within our community by showing that our law enforcement is well-supported and prepared to protect us.”

The FY25 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act now awaits consideration by the full Senate.

Overall, Senator Britt secured $7.16 million in justice-related congressionally directed spending in the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2025.

Senator Britt is an advocate for ensuring that Alabama’s communities—both rural and urban—have their unique needs met. She supports law enforcement officers extensively. She is a cosponsor of the Back the Blue Act which aims to strengthen existing laws protecting police officers while increasing criminal penalties for individuals targeting law enforcement personnel. Additionally, she cosponsors the Thin Blue Line Act which seeks to expand statutory aggravating factors in capital punishment determinations involving law enforcement officers or other first responders.
