U.S. Senator Katie Britt has secured $1.97 million for the City of Bayou La Batre as part of the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This funding is intended to facilitate significant upgrades to the city's wastewater treatment facility, specifically replacing the headworks and ultraviolet systems.
Senator Britt emphasized the importance of this investment: "The Seafood Capital of Alabama needs a water upgrade, and I am proud to have secured funds in the FY25 Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Act that would make that possible," she said. "When I joined the Appropriations Committee, I promised to return your hard-earned taxpayer dollars home to Alabama. This appropriations bill, upon full Congressional passage, would make a substantial investment in Bayou La Batre’s infrastructure that will help families and small businesses for years to come."
Bayou La Batre Mayor Henry D. Barnes, Sr., expressed his gratitude: “Receiving this grant for our wastewater treatment plant marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being. It’s not just an investment in infrastructure but a profound recognition of our shared responsibility to protect our natural resources for future generations."
Mobile County Commission President Randall Dueitt also acknowledged Senator Britt's role: “This achievement is a testament to the shared vision of a cleaner, greener future and underscores the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Senator Britt for her trust and commitment to our goals."
Dan McCrory, Director of Water & Sewer Operations at the Utilities Board for the City of Bayou La Batre, highlighted the long-term impact: “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Senator Britt for her unwavering support and dedication to our project. Her commitment to enhancing our infrastructure reflects a shared vision for a healthier, more sustainable future.”
