U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has secured $3 million for the City of Union Springs in the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This congressionally directed spending aims to fund significant improvements for the city's water system.
The planned improvements include constructing a new water supply production well and a new 500,000-gallon elevated water storage tank. These enhancements are essential for several major facilities within the service area. The elevated water storage tank is expected to maintain consistent water pressure and service at local critical care facilities such as Spring Manor Assisted Living Facility, Bullock County Hospital, and Fresenius Kidney Dialysis Clinic.
Wayne Sanderson Farms operates an 85,000-square-foot processing facility in Union Springs that employs 900 people and is the largest consumer of water produced by the system, using more than half of its output. The planned expansion of operations at this facility necessitates additional water storage capacity and resources that these improvements will provide.
“When I joined the Appropriations Committee, I promised to return your hard-earned taxpayer dollars home to Alabama, and with this funding I am proud to have locked in $3 million for the City of Union Springs Water Systems. These funds would enable the construction of a new water supply production well and a new 500,000-gallon water storage tank that would provide for local critical care facilities,” said Senator Britt.
The FY25 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act now awaits consideration by the full Senate.
