U.S. Senator Katie Britt issued a statement today commemorating the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. In her remarks, she reflected on the events of that day and the nation's response.
"23 years have passed, yet America remembers September 11, 2001, like no other—the day our nation stood back up after the deadliest terrorist attack in human history stole the lives of 2,977 innocent people," Britt said. "These United States came together in unimaginable crisis—courageous first responders ran into burning buildings, good Samaritans helped total strangers, and selfless Americans sacrificed themselves to foil an attempt to strike our country’s capital."
Britt highlighted the heroism displayed on United Flight 93: "This Patriot Day, I am once again reminded of the tremendous debt we owe the brave souls on United Flight 93 who saved countless lives."
She concluded by emphasizing national unity and resilience: "Today, like each September 11 since 2001, we honor the lives lost, the first responders, and our unexpected heroes, and we show the world that America, no matter her differences, is unbowed and unbroken. We will never forget. The American spirit will never be defeated – we continue to be a great people moved to defend a great nation."
