U.S. Senator Katie Britt Celebrates $5.6 Million Grant for Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 12, 2024 – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) today celebrated the Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority receiving a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) discretionary grant for $5.6 million. The grant will fund the final phase of a project to rehabilitate 8,503 feet of existing paved runway at Dothan Regional Airport. This investment aims to extend the life of the runway, improve commercial, military, and general aviation operations, and support over twenty businesses and agencies operating at the airport.

Senator Britt voted in favor of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, which ensured funding was available for this project. The grant was formally announced by the Department of Transportation on September 6, 2024.

“As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I’ve prioritized bringing your taxpayer dollars home to strengthen and modernize our infrastructure, including this significant project for the Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority,” said Senator Britt. “I was proud to support this funding which will make our infrastructure safer, more reliable, and available for Alabamians today and tomorrow.”

“The Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority is thrilled to announce the receipt of over $5.6 million in Federal Funds aimed at enhancing infrastructure at Dothan Regional Airport. These funds will primarily go towards rehabilitating the asphalt on our main runway and initiating improvements to the airfield’s drainage system. This critical project, made possible through the steadfast support of Senator Britt, underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships in sustaining exceptional service for Military, Corporate, and General Aviation users throughout the Wiregrass Area,” said Adam Hartzog, Dothan-Houston County Regional Airport Executive Director.
