In a recent article published by FOX News, U.S. Senator Katie Britt criticized former President Bill Clinton for comments made in Columbus, Georgia. During his remarks, Clinton addressed the murder of Laken Riley, stating that "a young woman who had been killed by an immigrant... if they’d all been properly vetted that probably wouldn’t have happened." The accused in Riley's case is a Venezuelan national who crossed the U.S. southern border illegally in September 2022 and was subsequently paroled into the country by the Biden-Harris Administration.
Senator Britt responded to Clinton's comments with strong words against the current administration. She stated, "What President Clinton refused to admit is that this is a conscious choice the Biden-Harris Administration has made. No one is forcing them to parole hundreds of thousands of poorly vetted individuals into communities across our country."
Britt further asserted that stronger border security and immigration enforcement policies could have prevented Riley's death. She said, "Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have willfully, recklessly, and unlawfully allowed poorly vetted individuals, including Laken Riley’s accused murderer, to unleash havoc on American families nationwide."
Earlier this year, Senators Britt and Ted Budd introduced the bipartisan Laken Riley Act as a Senate companion to H.R. 7511 proposed by Representative Mike Collins. This legislation aims to require U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest illegal aliens committing specific offenses such as theft or burglary and ensure their detention until removal from the United States.
The act also proposes allowing states to bring civil actions against federal officials who do not enforce immigration laws or violate them. However, Senate Democrats have blocked its passage twice.
