U.S. Senator Katie Britt has reiterated her call for the swift passage of the Laken Riley Act following the guilty verdict in the case of Laken Riley's murder. In a statement, Senator Britt expressed relief that justice was served for Riley's family but emphasized the need to prevent similar tragedies.

"Laken Riley’s family is finally seeing justice after having lost their loving daughter. While it’s welcome news her killer will be behind bars, we must ensure this never happens again in America," said Britt. She criticized current border enforcement policies, attributing them to allowing dangerous individuals like Jose Antonio Ibarra into the country illegally.

Britt remains focused on advancing the Laken Riley Act, which she believes will protect other families from such tragedies. "I remain committed to passing the Laken Riley Act to ensure more families are spared this type of unthinkable tragedy," she stated. She also expressed hope for stronger immigration policies with a potential second term for President Trump.

The proposed legislation, introduced by Senators Britt and Ted Budd earlier this year as S.3933, complements H.R. 7511 by Representative Mike Collins. It aims to mandate U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain illegal aliens involved in crimes such as theft and burglary until they are deported, preventing further offenses.

Furthermore, the bill would allow states to take legal action against federal officials who fail to enforce immigration laws or violate them. Despite bipartisan support in the House with a vote of 251-170, Senate Democrats have blocked its passage twice.
