Senator Britt questions FBI director nominee Kash Patel on safety priorities

U.S. Senator Katie Britt engaged in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to question Kash Patel, President Trump's nominee for the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). During the hearing, Britt highlighted Patel's statements and his commitment to enhancing safety and security in America.

Britt emphasized, "I have been diligently listening over the last few hours, and what I have heard you say is this. That your duty is to protect American citizens, that you will work to uphold the Constitution. I have heard you say you’re going to get back to making sure you focus on violent crime . . . You said you were going to have the backs, as you always have, of law enforcement."

She continued by discussing Patel's plans regarding drug overdoses and ensuring justice is served: "You talked about having no intention of going backwards. You have talked about making sure that we actually address drug overdoses... You’ve talked about de-weaponizing and making sure that we don’t politicize the department."

Senator Britt also pointed out recent legislation signed into law: "Yesterday we signed the Laken Riley Act into law... when we look at fentanyl overdoses being the leading cause of death between the ages of 18 and 45, I’ve heard you say you want to tackle that."

Patel responded by outlining his approach if confirmed as FBI Director: "Thank you, Senator, I really appreciate it. And the two themes that if I’m confirmed that I have for the FBI are really just going back to keeping it simple. One, let good cops be cops . . . Track two: to restore the trust in the FBI..."

He added on government accountability: "What the FBI must do... is work with Congress, Republicans and Democrats, to expose any government corruption..."

In further questioning, Britt sought Patel's commitment regarding facilities in Huntsville, Alabama: “Redstone Arsenal and the FBI assets... So, I really want you to come and visit with me..." To which Patel assured her commitment: “Senator, you have that commitment... Let’s fill those seats.”

A video of Senator Britt’s full line of questioning can be viewed online.
