U.S. Senator Katie Britt participated in a significant event at the White House, where President Donald Trump signed an executive order to restore Title IX protections. The signing took place on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, emphasizing the administration's stance on maintaining separate sports categories for biological women and men.
Senator Britt expressed her concerns about previous changes to Title IX under President Biden and Vice President Harris. "Women and girls across our nation nearly saw their ability to achieve their own personal American Dream ripped away when President Biden and Vice President Harris chose to dismantle Title IX protections," said Senator Britt. She praised Trump's decision, stating, "Today, President Trump said no more, and he restored longstanding, commonsense protections to ensure daughters across America, like my own, can continue to unlock their potential."
Britt is also a cosponsor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act introduced by Senator Tommy Tuberville. This legislation aims to define gender based on reproductive biology and genetics at birth for Title IX enforcement purposes. It would prohibit federal funding recipients from supporting athletic programs that allow males to compete in women's events. The bill recently passed the U.S. House with a vote of 218-206.
Additionally, Senator Britt collaborated with Senator Marsha Blackburn on introducing the 'American Girls in Sports Day' resolution. This resolution seeks to highlight the significance of Title IX in safeguarding opportunities for biological women in sports.
