U.S. Senator Katie Britt addressed a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions hearing to introduce Linda McMahon as President Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of the Department of Education. Britt expressed concerns about the current education system, stating that it has failed both students and parents.
“It is clear that our current education system isn’t working,” said Senator Britt. “The status quo in education just hasn’t failed students, it’s failed parents, just like me . . . Our students deserve better. Our parents deserve better.”
Britt emphasized the need for change within the Department of Education and identified McMahon as the suitable candidate to lead this transformation. She criticized past actions by the department that she believes have been detrimental to families.
“For far too long, the Department of Education has catered to far left bureaucrats at the expense of moms and dads," Britt stated. "It has pushed for school closures, removed parental rights from the equation, promoted radical ideologies in the classroom, and supported allowing men and boys to play in women and girls’ sports."
Britt highlighted McMahon's focus on aligning education with workforce needs: “Attending a four-year college or university is the right path for many Americans, but it’s not the only one available to graduating high schoolers, and Linda will ensure that students know that.”
She praised McMahon's professional background and her experience in educational roles: “Linda McMahon is someone who knows how to reform our education system so it actually prepares kids for the future.”
Britt concluded by urging support for McMahon's confirmation: “Her confirmation as Secretary of Education will be a monumental step towards preserving the American Dream... Let’s confirm my friend, Linda McMahon.”
Before the hearing, Britt met with McMahon to discuss her plans for empowering parents and strengthening educational freedom.
