U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Ed Markey, and Ted Cruz have introduced the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. This legislation aims to require automakers to maintain AM broadcast radio in new vehicles without additional charges. The act has advanced out of the Senate Commerce Committee by voice vote.

Senator Britt stated, “I’m proud to be a cosponsor of the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. Alabama communities rely on AM radio for life-saving information like severe weather updates, emergency alerts, and breaking news.” She emphasized the importance of ensuring AM radio remains available in vehicles across America.

AM radio is an essential source of news, sports, weather, and emergency alerts for 47 million Americans weekly. It plays a crucial role during emergencies and is part of FEMA’s emergency alert system, reaching over 90 percent of the country.

Senator Cruz highlighted the significance of AM radio during emergencies: “During weather disasters or power outages, AM radio is consistently the most reliable form of communication and is critical to keep millions of Texans safe.” He also noted its role in promoting free speech and democratic processes.

Senator Britt was recognized by the Alabama Broadcasters Association for her support of this legislation during the 118th Congress.
