U.S. Senator Katie Britt has expressed her support for President Trump's recent executive order aimed at expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF). This move is described as the most significant pro-IVF action taken at the federal level.
"IVF is fundamentally pro-family, helping aspiring parents across our nation start and grow their families. I couldn’t be happier to see President Trump take this landmark step to expand access to this pathway to parenthood," said Senator Britt. "I remain grateful for President Trump’s bold leadership on this issue. IVF will be more affordable and accessible for loving American families thanks to President Trump."
The executive order mandates that the Administration's domestic policy team provide recommendations within 90 days concerning both accessibility and affordability of IVF. The order emphasizes, "My Administration recognizes the importance of family formation, and as a Nation, our public policy must make it easier for loving and longing mothers and fathers to have children."
In February 2024, following discussions with Senator Britt, President Trump urged Alabama to pass legislation protecting IVF access. Subsequently, Alabama's Republican-led House and Senate quickly passed a bill which Governor Kay Ivey signed into law.
"President Trump is, once again, keeping his promises to the American people. I look forward to introducing legislation in the Senate advancing the Trump Administration’s pro-family agenda for the millions of Americans facing infertility who dream of building a family. Republicans will continue to fight for hardworking families and deliver real results," continued Senator Britt.
Senator Britt has been an advocate for protecting nationwide IVF access. She introduced the IVF Protection Act with Senator Ted Cruz in May last year. This act is currently the only congressional bill ensuring continued IVF access while safeguarding religious liberty.
Additionally, last year Senator Britt led all Republican Senators in issuing a joint statement supporting ongoing nationwide IVF access.
