U.S. Senator Katie Britt recently met with Alabama steelworker Jeff Denard, who was invited by First Lady Melania Trump to attend President Trump's joint address to Congress. Denard, a volunteer firefighter and foster parent from Decatur, represents the hardworking individuals that the Trump Administration aims to support.
Senator Britt expressed her gratitude for the invitation extended to Denard and emphasized Alabama's significant role in national security through its steelmaking heritage. "I am incredibly grateful to First Lady Melania Trump for extending an invitation to an Alabamian, Jeff Denard, to attend President Trump’s Joint Session to Congress. Alabama’s steelmaking heritage continues to strengthen our state and our national security capabilities through Made in America excellence," said Senator Britt. She further noted that Denard and his wife exemplify the best of Alabama through their hard work and generosity.
Highlighting her support for the state's manufacturing industry, Senator Britt has been active in promoting legislation beneficial to steelworkers. Her efforts include visiting Nucor’s Tuscaloosa mill and cosponsoring the Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act aimed at strengthening U.S. trade laws against unfair practices.
"I will continue fighting in the Senate to protect American workers, properly enforce U.S. trade agreements, and strengthen our national security," stated Senator Britt regarding her legislative initiatives.
