On March 3, Representative Gary Palmer from Alabama introduced a new piece of legislation known as H.R. 1776, or the New Health Options Act. This initiative aims to address issues within the current healthcare system established under Obamacare.

Rep. Palmer commented on the bill's purpose, stating: “Our healthcare system under Obamacare is broken and leaves Americans with unaffordable plans and high prices.” He emphasized that the new act prioritizes patients by tackling existing problems in the healthcare system. According to Palmer, “This bill proves that it is possible to allow families and individuals to have consumer choice, healthcare affordability, and price transparency without having to sacrifice one over the other.”

Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of the Foundation for Government Accountability, also expressed support for the proposed legislation. He remarked: “The New Health Options Act is about giving working Americans coverage options that work for them. This parallel marketplace operates alongside the subsidized exchange and offers more tailored, transparent, and cost-effective plans so working individuals and families can choose the coverage that fits their needs at a better price.” Bragdon thanked Rep. Palmer for his leadership on this reform effort.

The New Health Options Act proposes an alternative market separate from the Affordable Care Act marketplace. It includes provisions such as requiring disclosure of cash prices if they are lower than negotiated rates and offering more flexibility in provider networks while ensuring coverage for preexisting conditions at reduced costs.
