U.S. Senator Katie Britt, representing Alabama, has been honored with the "Outstanding New Member of Congress" award by the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF). This accolade is awarded to a member of Congress in their first term who has demonstrated reliability as a partner for agriculture.
"I am honored to receive the ‘Outstanding New Member of Congress’ award from the American Farm Bureau Federation," Senator Britt stated. She emphasized the critical role of family farmers and the agricultural community in ensuring American food security, which she linked to economic and national security. She affirmed her commitment to supporting farmers in their efforts to sustain their land for future generations.
Zippy Duvall, President of AFBF, expressed his pleasure in presenting the award to Senator Britt. "Her leadership is needed to help address the challenges facing America’s farmers and ranchers," he said. He noted issues such as high supply prices and lack of modernized farm legislation as challenges requiring strong legislative support.
Senator Britt's nomination came from the Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA), recognizing her contributions to rural America and dedication to both local and national farming communities. ALFA President Jimmy Parnell described her as a rising star with significant potential in the U.S. Senate, praising her understanding of agriculture's importance for rural survival.
The AFBF award highlights members who have served no more than one full term in Congress at nomination time, demonstrating agricultural leadership aligned with Farm Bureau policies.
In legislative actions, Senator Britt has recently supported several initiatives related to agriculture. She was part of introducing the Death Tax Repeal Act aimed at abolishing federal estate tax impacts on family farms and businesses upon an owner's death. She also joined resolutions emphasizing the National FFA Organization's role in developing future leaders within agriculture.
Additionally, she has backed legislation addressing foreign ownership of American farmland and cybersecurity threats within agriculture. These include introducing the Not One More Inch or Acre Act and cosponsoring acts like the Farm and Food Cybersecurity Act and Foreign Adversary Risk Management (FARM) Act across two congressional sessions.
