U.S. Senators Katie Britt from Alabama and Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee have introduced a resolution to designate October 10 as 'American Girls in Sports Day.' The resolution aims to celebrate the achievements of female athletes and highlight the role of Title IX in safeguarding opportunities for biological women in sports.

Senator Britt emphasized the importance of protecting women and girls in sports for future generations. "For daughters like mine and future generations, we need to celebrate and protect women and girls in sports. I will fight against any assault on Title IX, which for decades has allowed girls and women to have the opportunity to compete safely and fairly," said Britt. She expressed gratitude towards Senator Blackburn's leadership on this issue.

Senator Blackburn voiced concerns about challenges faced by young female athletes. "Young women across the country have suffered injuries, faced sexual harassment, and lost accolades because they were forced to share spaces designed for women with men," she stated. Blackburn highlighted that many Americans believe athletes should compete on teams that align with their biological sex.

The resolution is co-sponsored by several Republican senators, including Cindy Hyde-Smith (Mississippi), James Lankford (Oklahoma), Roger Marshall (Kansas), Ron Johnson (Wisconsin), Jim Risch (Idaho), Thom Tillis (North Carolina), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), John Hoeven (North Dakota), Tom Cotton (Arkansas), Joni Ernst (Iowa), John Barrasso (Wyoming), Eric Schmitt (Missouri), John Cornyn (Texas), Cynthia Lummis (Wyoming), Roger Wicker (Mississippi), Tommy Tuberville (Alabama), Steve Daines (Montana), Lindsey Graham (South Carolina), Ted Cruz (Texas), Mike Lee (Utah), Kevin Cramer (North Dakota), Mike Crapo (Idaho), Tim Sheehy (Montana), Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Bill Hagerty(Tennessee ), Bill Cassidy(Louisiana ), Pete Ricketts(Nebraska ), and Deb Fischer(Nebraska ).

Previously, a similar resolution was blocked by Senate Democrats during the 118th Congress.
