U.S. Senators Katie Britt and Ted Budd have introduced the Protect Our Law Enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act of 2025. This legislation aims to enhance federal law by making the assault of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or other first responder a deportable offense.

Senator Britt highlighted the importance of this act following the passage of her Laken Riley Act, which requires U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain any illegal alien who assaults a law enforcement officer. "The American people want to make sure our communities and our friends and neighbors are safe," said Senator Britt. She emphasized that while the Laken Riley Act was significant progress, more work is needed, including passing the POLICE Act.

Senator Budd expressed his support for deporting individuals who harm law enforcement officers or first responders. "One of the best ways we can support law enforcement officers, and protect the public, is by deporting dangerous people who do them harm," he stated.

The POLICE Act is part of several immigration-related bills sponsored or supported by Senator Britt aimed at protecting Americans and their communities. Among these is the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act, which she cosponsored to fight sanctuary policies.

Additionally, Senator Britt has introduced the WALL Act to complete border wall construction with $25 billion in funding sourced from closing loopholes and eliminating entitlements for illegal immigrants. The Joint Committee on Taxation estimated potential savings from this bill's provisions at $33 billion over ten years.
