U.S. Senator Katie Britt has been appointed as Chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on the Senate Committee on Appropriations for the 119th Congress. Senator Chris Murphy will serve as Ranking Member. The subcommittee oversees the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including agencies such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Senator Britt expressed her commitment to addressing border security issues under her new role, stating, "Given the unprecedented border crisis and the rising threats to our homeland we’ve faced under the Biden-Harris Administration, this is a critical role at a critical time for our country." She emphasized her dedication to securing borders and enhancing national safety.

Appropriations Committee Chair Senator Susan Collins also expressed enthusiasm about working with Senator Britt, highlighting the subcommittee's responsibility over key federal agencies involved in border security and combating illegal narcotics. "I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Britt, Chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee, to ensure the safety of communities throughout the United States," said Collins.

In addition to her new chair position, Senator Britt will serve on several other subcommittees covering areas such as Commerce, Justice, Science; Labor; Transportation; Energy; and State operations.

Senator Britt reaffirmed her commitment to returning Alabamians' tax dollars back home during her tenure in Congress.
