Rep. Terri A. Sewell, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Alabama's 7th district since 2011, recently shared several updates on social media regarding her legislative activities and engagements in Alabama. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, and a graduate of Princeton University, Oxford, and Harvard University, Sewell continues to be active in both local and national issues.

On February 5, 2025, Rep. Sewell announced her intention to introduce legislation aimed at designating December 1st as a federal holiday. This date is significant as it marks the historic arrest of Rosa Parks in Montgomery, Alabama. "LIVE NOW: I'm introducing legislation to designate December 1st as a federal holiday commemorating the historic arrest of Rosa Parks in Montgomery, Alabama."

Later that day, Sewell shared details about a meeting with college presidents from Alabama to discuss enhancing resources for students across the state. "Had a great meeting with some of Alabama’s college presidents about how we can deliver more resources for our students!"

On February 6, 2025, she reflected on the events that took place exactly 69 years ago when riots erupted at the University of Alabama following Autherine Lucy Foster's enrollment as the first African American student there. She highlighted this historical moment as a reminder of ongoing challenges faced by states across the country. "Exactly 69 years ago, riots broke out at the University of Alabama as Autherine Lucy Foster began attending classes. Rather than securing the campus, the University expelled Autherine, their first African American student."
