U.S. Senators, led by Katie Britt of Alabama and Jim Risch of Idaho, have introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing the contributions of women business owners in the United States. This initiative coincides with Women's History Month and follows International Women's Day.
Senator Britt emphasized the significance of women-owned small businesses, stating, "Growing up, I saw firsthand the hard work and dedication my own mother put into her small business." She further noted their role in innovation and economic growth: "Women-owned small businesses are at the forefront of driving innovation, job creation, and economic growth."
The resolution is supported by Senators Mike Crapo, Susan Collins, John Kennedy, Mark Kelly, Ed Markey, Gary Peters, Jacky Rosen, and Jeanne Shaheen.
Alabama ranks 10th in the nation for women-owned small businesses. These enterprises account for 40.6% of all businesses in the state. They employ over 131,000 people and generate $29.2 billion in sales.
Senator Britt has been a consistent advocate for local businesses in Alabama. She recently supported Kelly Loeffler's confirmation as Administrator of the Small Business Administration under President Trump. Britt expressed confidence in Loeffler's ability to support small businesses: "Small businesses are the backbone of our nation’s economy... I have every confidence she will fight for Main Street America."
