On March 16, 2025, Rep. Sewell expressed her sorrow over the passing of Congresswoman Nita Lowey. In her tweet, she stated: "I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Congresswoman Nita Lowery. As the first woman to Chair the House Appropriations Committee, she paved the way for so many other women in Congress. My sincerest condolences are extended to her family and friends. May she Rest in Peace."

In another tweet dated March 17, 2025, Rep. Sewell announced an upcoming event focused on discussing proposed cuts by the current administration affecting key services such as education and healthcare.
