Rep. Terri A. Sewell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 7th District since 2011, shared updates on various issues through her social media posts dated March 20 and March 21, 2025. In these communications, she addressed recent tornado damage in Gordo, criticized proposed tax cuts by prominent figures, and highlighted concerns about potential Medicaid cuts affecting rural healthcare.
On March 20, Sewell reported from Gordo where she assessed the aftermath of a tornado that occurred on Saturday. She expressed gratitude to state and local partners as well as first responders for their swift action in response to the disaster. Sewell stated: "I spent the morning in Gordo surveying some of the damage from Saturday’s tornado. Once again, I want to thank the amazing state and local partners, first responders, and volunteers who sprung into action."
Later that day, Sewell criticized efforts led by former President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk aimed at reducing taxes for billionaires at the expense of vulnerable populations. She voiced her concerns regarding Trump's intention to dismantle the Department of Education: "The Trump-Musk scheme to cut taxes for billionaires has found its latest target: America's most vulnerable children."
On March 21, Rep. Sewell visited Greene County Hospital where she discussed with Dr. Marcia Pugh about healthcare services provided in Alabama's Black Belt region. Emphasizing the critical role of Medicaid funding for rural hospitals like Greene County Hospital, she stated: "Cuts to Medicaid would be devastating for rural hospitals like this one."
